Posters

The first project in the design 101 class was to create 3 posters based on themes pulled from a haiku, the haiku I chose was:

The Darkness descends
nocturnal beast come to feast
craving for lost souls.

The progress of making these are shown in the blog posts:

Poster 1: Darkness

Poster 1

Title: Darkness
Theme: Fear of the Dark
Technique: Collage

This poster focused on the concept of closure and area in creating something that isn’t actually there.
Through making this poster I learnt that making something that looks good in person does not always translate to other mediums, you must always think about where your end product will go while creating it.

Poster 2: ANGLER

Poster 2

Title: ANGLER
Theme: Fear of Things that You Don’t Know
Technique: Adobe Illustrator

The concepts I used where color theory, typography, and composition.
The inspiration behind this poster was a horror story, the first episode of The Magnus Archives1.
Through making this poster, I mostly learnt that I need to really focus on planning what I will do with a poster or design before I start working on it, as the first version of this poster did not have a lot of thought behind it, and did not look anywhere near as good.

Poster 3: OLIVIA

Poster 3

Title: OLIVIA
Theme: Isolation
Technique: 3d modeling and ASCII art

The concepts I used where mainly narrative concepts, using repeated frames to show a slow in pace. I think if I had more time to work on it I would likely be able to make a better looking final product, but it gets across the narrative.
The inspiration behind this poster was from my thoughts, likely synthesized from hundreds of narratives, that space is lonely.
Through making this poster, and the lecture that we had before it, I learnt that a storyboard is a very effective tool to communicate ideas when used correctly.
